Brand Identity

Interplay Industrial Design Museum calls attention to just that; the interplay between user and tool. Its design pulls from iconic industrial design elements such as Swiss typography, radials, raw materials, and a bright yellow-orange accent color.

Brand Assets

The Interplay logo is typography based, with circles taking the place of (most) ascenders and descenders. This plays into the brand’s focus on radials, a hugely important form within the medium of industrial design. Supporting this is the primary typeface, Neue Haas Grotesk, Helvetica’s predecessor. Swiss typography was also a huge component of industrial design and its simplicity will allow for the exhibitions to shine. The colors are comprised of an off-black, white, and grey, with a bright yellow-orange accent.

Signage System

With this being an industrial design museum, the physicality of the signage was very important. This means decisions such as material, form, and scale were all deeply considered.

A directory placed near the entrance of the building, showing visitors the way to different points of interest.

Much of the signage is raw CNC’d aluminum, a material used in many iconic products showcased in the museum. Other signage is either polycarbonate or painted directly onto the wall. Almost every example features a radial shape, whether it be the donor wall, which arranges donor names in a circle, or the wayfinding signage, which features arrows encased in aluminum circles. Corner radii are consistent across the signage system, making everything feel tight and cohesive.
